The Parks & Recreation Department holds four garage sales a year, with over 70 garage sale booths possible at each sale! Booth space can be purchased by attending a lottery drawing and cost $25 per booth. Shopper admission is just $1.00. The upcoming dates are listed below. Christmas at the City 2023 (Nov. 11)

The 3rd Annual Christmas At The City Gala is back and better than ever. Get ready to celebrate the holiday season in style at One City, where the magic of Christmas comes alive. The night will include dinner, entertainment, a silent auction, and a live auction of beautifully decorated Christmas trees. Attire for the evening is semi-formal. Doors open at 5:30.

Cape Farmers’ Market (Nov. 2/9/16)
Free Admittance, West Park Mall Parking Lot
The Cape Farmers’ Market sells locally grown produce, fruits, meats, foods, and other products related to agriculture and will be open every Thursday until November 17th rain or shine. Almost any produce grown in this area can be found in season at the market being sold by the vendor who produced it.
Nature Center @ Night: Art & Autumn (Nov. 3)
Free, Cape Girardeau Nature Center
Autumn is one of the most beautiful times of year. Bring some of this beauty inside and attend the Nature Center @ Night event featuring autumn and winter crafts. Children of all ages will love making leaf prints, turkey hats, and other seasonal crafts. Stations will be set up for you to come and go as you please.
Conservation Kids: Fort Building in the Forest (Nov. 4)
Free, Cape Girardeau Nature Center
A fort holding down the Wild West. A princess house. Whatever their preference, children can put their building skills to the test with this activity! After a short program featuring Missouri’s hibernating fort-builders, guests will head outside to build their very own forts. Various items and natural elements will be provided to make the forts. Children should wear sturdy clothes that can get dirty. This activity is weather-dependent and may be moved inside if necessary.
Riverfront Cleanup (Nov. 4)

Come lend a helping hand and take part in a litter pickup. Attendants will meet at the Broadway Street entrance of Riverfront Park in downtown Cape Girardeau, and will be provided trash bags, gloves, free T-shirts, snacks, and drinks.
Fall for Dance (Nov. 16-19)

Southeast Missouri State University’s annual dance showcase, featuring choreography by students, faculty, and guest choreographer Jason Galeos. Sponsored by Drury Southwest. Discounts available.
Fall Family Festival (Nov. 19)
$1 per activity, Shawnee Park Center
Come one, come all and celebrate fall at the Fall Family Festival! This event includes hayrides, a bonfire, weenie roast, s’mores and more! Each activity is $1 per person. No registration is required for this fun fall event at the Shawnee Park Center.
Christmas Tree Lighting (Nov. 24)
Free, Vasterling Suites Courtyard
Join Santa & Mrs. Claus as they light the thirty-foot Christmas tree! Kick-off the holiday season with Christmas music, fire pits, and local food vendors. The Christmas Tree Lighting is proudly presented by Old Town Cape, Inc., and sponsors Banterra Bank and Top of the Marq.
Parade of Lights (Nov. 26)
Free, Downtown Cape Girardeau
Head downtown for the annual Parade of Lights beginning at dusk.The Parade of Lights theme for this year is “Gnome Place Like Home For the Holidays!” chosen by Parade of Lights chairs, Kent and Vicki Zickfield, who own Zickfield’s Jewelry & Gifts, located at 29 N. Main Street in Downtown Cape Girardeau. The parade begins at the intersection of Broadway Street and West End Boulevard (Capaha Park entrance), continues East down Broadway toward the river, then turns right onto Main Street, and will end at 43 S. Main (Hutson’s Big Sandy Furniture parking lot). Parade of Lights attendees can expect to see a variety of holiday-themed floats from Cape Girardeau and surrounding area businesses and organizations, and rumor has it that Santa and Mrs. Claus will be making an appearance towards the end of the parade! Parade of Lights participants are encouraged to decorate their entry with lights and have music playing. Along the route, judges will be choosing entries for best theme, best appearance by a business or organization, best appearance by a not for profit, best music, best lighting, best marching band, and the chairman’s award.
Rutter’s Magnificat (Nov. 28)
$20 per ticket*, Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall
British composer John Rutter composed the Magnificat in 1990; written for full chorus and orchestra, it is a lyrical, colorful work based on the traditional “Magnificat” canticle. Also on the program will be thrilling, festive works for symphony orchestra. A perfect concert to start off the holiday season!
